Lunar New Year 2024
Chinatown, one of the asian quaters in Paris, France, was named this way, but it is not really only chinese people who began to live there, but other asian people such as the Vietnamese, Cambodian, Korean, and Metis. Nowadays, a lot of African people came to live there also, so this quater has really become a melting pot. In this quater a part remained more occidental than the other old sector with more Asian businesses such as restaurants for instance.
Every year, for the Lunar New Year, "Têt" as it is called in Vietnam , the dates are different. This Têt in 2024 started on the 10th of February. This year is the year of the "wood dragon". It lasts a few days where people try to have a few days holidays with family and friends to start this new year, eating a lot of typical food such as "banh chung".
A lot of events such as nice exibitions in street,
like martial art demonstrations or dragon and lion dances are shown with a nice colored carnaval to celebrate this new year. Celebration dragons have two people inside. The dragons eat a salad in front of restaurants which ask for ritual dancing. It is a ritual and also buddhist celebration which can bring luck, happy events, and prosperity.
